We Love Toyotas

What do you all think about Toyota entering Nascar Nextel Cup Racing? Do you think Toyota will do as well in Cup as it does in the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series? I think Toyota is ready to meet the challenge and kick some major butt! Incidentally, how many of you are Nascar fans?

I really think Toyota is wasting its time in NASCAR, more so with the Cup cars. I guess the trucks aren't so bad, but with the 2007 "Cars of Tomorrow" it has become a spec series. All the cars will have become identical. The only differences between the brands will be the decals. If all the decals were removed you would not be able to distinguish and difference between the Camry, Monte Carlo, Ford (whatever they're using now), and the Charger. And besides that Toyota is having to go back to 1960's technology with the pushrod V-8 and carbs. Plus there's rumors that one of the "Big 3" will be leaving NASCAR anyway because of the new Car of Tomorrow and no distinguishing brand characteristics.

IMHO Toyota should save its Mega-Million $$'s, forget the Nextal Cup series (stay in trucks), and compete in the ALMS. With Mazda's entry this year and Acura's announcement for 2007, Toyota needs to advance its techonology and compete in the top tier of motorsports. Going backwards is not going to help them and isn't going to get the return on investment they're hoping for.

Anyway, that's what I think.

After a little more thought, I realized that Toyota is entering into the sports car racing series under the Lexus banner with the IS 350. There's more info on it here at the Lexus website.
